The Art of Job Hunting

Looking for a job is hard. It's tedious, it's frustrating, and most of all it can be downright depressing. In my free time, I like to look through the job postings on LinkedIn and see what's out there. The great thing about being in "The Great Resignation" is that there is tons of opportunities available! So why is it still so hard? Why do we waste hours looking at job sites, combing through tons of postings, only to find maybe one or two that we actually apply too?

I think it's because of intimidation. I think when we look at these posting, we get intimidated by the qualification and recommended skill sets that these employers are looking for. Going back to my previous post about "What Makes You Qualified", this intimidation of wanted qualifications plays a major role in how we see ourselves and if we apply or not. Thus the "art of job hunting" begins.

I've taken a new approach to job hunting so I don't become too intimidated anymore. I try not to read too much into the qualifications and ask myself "Could I perform these actions to the best of my abilities?" Most of the time, the answer I have is Yes. When I come across a no, I simply ask myself "Could I teach myself these skills?" I have found asking myself these simple questions has changed the way I see job hunting now. I know longer get discouraged as often as I did before. The intimidation that I felt before is replaced with the feeling of an opportunity to learn not only something for personal growth, but for professional growth too.

Job Hunting shouldn't be a stressful experience to anyone that finds themselves on the market again. It should be a place we're our accomplishments, experience, and expertise are recognized and validated. We should feel good about applying to jobs we know that we can do well. So I challenge you to take a step back and look at how job hunting makes you feel. Are you intimidated? Discouraged? If so, stop and reevaluate how you look at yourself. You are qualified. You are worthy. You are an artist of your profession.

Happy Hunting!
